Tuesday afternoon gear change

Occasional commenter Andrew K implied that 70's popsters Racey were incapable of doing a gear change back in November. He has since done some more research and rediscovered "Some girls" which has nice, tidy full-tone gear changes at 2 mins 54 seconds and at 3 mins 15 seconds - in a song which is only 3 mins 20 seconds long!

Enjoy. Or not, as the case may be:

Gear change - is that anything like a wardrobe malfunction?

JH, no, it's when a song gets a bit dull and you shift up a semi-tone or a tone more or less at random. Doing this four seconds before the fade is pretty radical though, even in hard core gear change circles.

I was exposed to this recording for a full 25 seconds before instinct kicked in to grab the chicken lever.

Ah that's right - you measure the metre and so on of songs, don't you? A worthy undertaking but it does distract you from the cows.

I haven't heard this one in many a long yonk, what a treat.

Happy New Year Mr W to you and those dear to you; thank you for a fun year of comment and debate.

MTG, it's the last 25 seconds that are interesting.

JH, the song doesn't speed up, they do 'gear changes' in other words most of hte song is in teh key of D but then they do a bit in the key of E and then right at the end they do it in the key of F sharp.

TFB, thanks, Happy New Year to you too, long may the debates continue!
