Since the camels don't seem too difficult to look after - or they'd all be dead - and they can carry large loads for long distances, why don't they look again at using camel trains? Seems such a waste to lose all that low-oil motive power.
@dearieme The raft lady did say "look again" at camel trains,so was probably aware that they'd been used before. In fact this part of settled Australia owes its existence to camels. Its called the Ghan as James Higham correctly references because it was full of cameleers who were called Afghans with scant regard for their real origins. Strikes me that they should, for this reason, show the camels more respect .Would it be so difficult to provide some watering points out of town inducing them to move on from this doubtless supremely boring place?

The laddy at the wine tasting said "Do you know the wines of the Seaview vineyard, madam?"
My wife replied "Last time I visited them was by camel".
Not at all surprised that the people of Northern Territories have got the hump over this..............
That's always been in Oz, particularly around the Ghan.
Weren't the Aussies contemplating a camel cull a while ago, but stymied by the problem of actually finding them in the outback?
Well, problem solved! Commence bombing run!

They used to use camel trains, woman - that's why they are awash with feral camels.
