Ooh! Touchy!

From the BBC:

The plates F4 GOT and D1 KES, which bear resemblance to the derogatory terms faggot and dykes, were due to go under the hammer in Broadway. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) removed the plates on grounds of "the clear potential offence".

The gay rights group Stonewall said such action by public authorities helped to make Britain "more equal".

I do wonder, would a homophobe actually pay good money for such a number plate, just on the off-chance he offended somebody? Or are they more likely to be bought by a gay or a lesbian with a wry sense of humour? We don't know of course, but if you saw such a number plate, you wouldn't know either, making the whole thing self-defeating.

I remember reading years ago about a US state which banned racially offensive platee after an Iralian American group (not the mafia) complained about plates with words like "Wop" and "Dago".

It turned out that all the offensive plates belonged to other Italian-Americans.

I did once see 'BUL541T' with a teeny hand-drawn addition to the 4 on a drunken night out in Shephers Bush. That's a plate worth having, that.

I was about to give a list of all the number plates I would like to have except the DVLA would never allow them to be released....due to lack of taste.

What about the extremely bad taste plates like:

5TR41T

M4RR13D

N0RM4L

These will also obviously have to be banned.

I think the Righteous are now in full on "let's give us more rope to hang ourselves with" mode, now the protectors in Labour and the public sector are shuffling towards the exits.

This is one pogrom I'll enjoy
