A Christmas tree in the centre of Leeds has been felled on the advice of police amid safety fears about a demonstration planned for the weekend.
The tree, which cost taxpayers £2,000, went up two weeks ago in City Square. However, West Yorkshire Police advised the council it could pose a risk to the public during a planned march by the English Defence League on Saturday. Surprised commuters looked on as workmen used a chainsaw to cut down the 30ft tree early on Thursday morning.
The Islamists must be laughing themselves silly over this - what a result!

None too sure but I think the English Defence League was the outfit interviewed on the telly,all wearing ski masks,who when challenged by the interviewer with "Is n't it true that you're just a drinking club with a website?" all burst out laughing.

DBC, I saw that, you recall correctly. But as many of these nutters as ther may be, don't forget that the propensity to racial violence appears to be thirty times as high among non-whites.

Martin, yes of course. But a) their music was good, b) they were intelligent and c) they were two-thirds Jewish, so definitely not fascists or anything.
Nasty German habit, Christmas trees. So doubtless the English whatever-they-are will welcome this robustly anti-teutonic gesture.
Rush are still going, of course, although their more recent music is much less overtly political.
I think Geddy Lee is the only one of the three who is Jewish, though.
