From The Metro:
One of Australia's most popular tourist trains, The Ghan, has derailed after hitting a cow in the Outback... The locomotive ran off the tracks, but there was no damage to the train, Dent said.

Oh God - this is too good to be true!
The spokespersons name was 'Dent'???
Perhaps the only comment is Holy Cow!
"Hitting a cow in the Outback" - And where, pray, is the outback on a cow? Surprised you did not spot this MW, pedant that you are.
Presumably the second locomotive could not be referred to as the udder locomotive?
This photo I took seems appropriate
If there had been damage to the train, I'd think questions would be asked!
Mind you, you wouldn't believe how much damage a deer can do to a modern car...
Here are some pics of my crash on the Ghan in 2006 when we hit a road train crossing the line. Luckily no one was seriously injured.

WFW, I didn't spot the dent. Damn.
JM, this is just a dry run. Next time the cows will find a model cow (like in CFF's picture) only they'll have it cast in lead, anchored to the track and painted to look lifelike...
Sobers, I take it the upside down orange thing with the wheels got hit? Nice'blog BTW. Do you want it added to my 'blogroll?
This is quite common although it's usually not a cow - it's a camel. I've been on that train. However, as your fetish is cows, Mark, let it be a cow. :)
Yes the orange upside down thing was a mining road train lorry (or what was left of it after we'd hit it). Fortunately it was empty so less damage done to train, lorry driver survived too (he was drunk apparently).
I don't really have a blog, it was just a way to post some pictures.
I would like to say that End is well that all is well.
