... is that you end up reading every single newspaper you can get your hands on as raw material.
One or two stories merit a direct mention, the vast majority are either pulp or you know that other 'bloggers are going to cover them to death anyway; but then there are a few stories that stick in your mind, which aren't, taken in isolation, particularly interesting or deserving of any particular comment or narrative or new angle. However, sooner or later, you build up a whole queue of seemingly unrelated and half-remembered stories that you somehow have to link together.
So, maybe it was always thus, and I've only just started noticing; maybe these incidents previously went reported; maybe it's a coincidence; or, maybe, just maybe, European cattle have become self-aware, like Skynet in the Terminator films, and decided to start fighting back:
23 April 2009: Leona Lewis head-butted by horse*
Spring 2009: From Ask The Experts: I was attacked by a herd of cows while out walking my dog on a public footpath and bridleway. I escaped with cuts and bruises, but felt badly shaken. Should I report this to prevent a serious incident occurring to someone else? Jacqui Scott
29 May 2009: Matador gored by bull as fight goes wrong
8 June 2009: David Blunkett injured protecting guide dog Sadie from charging cow
23 June 2009: Woman trampled to death by cattle as she walked her two dogs was a vet
24 June 2009: Farmer speaks of cow attack horror
10 July 2009: Man gored to death in Pamplona
Geek points to the first person who can explain why Climate Change is causing this abnormal behaviour.
* OK, technically a horse is not a cow, and that particular incident happened in the USA. Details, details ...

But it's the cattle which are causing the climate change.
Holy cow, Batman, this could be a self-perpetuating methane melt-down.
In fairness to the cows, it wasn't them who attacked David Blunkett. I did whilst saying "Moo" in order to fool him.
Woman on a raft, " Methane Meltdown ", wasn't that a hit single from The Sweet ? How very precient of them.
"self-perpetuating methane melt-down" oh Mrs Raft, you have outdone yourself; pure brilliance !
WOAR, nice try, but that doesn't prove that CC is causing violence among cattle.
Ross, brilliant.
Banned, no it wasn't, I searched the official Sweet web-site just to make sure.
TFB, see my first comment.
With the exception of LVT, covered in 15 episodes by MW.
Mark, CC could be causing this violent behaviour, but it requires a huge leap of faith to geet there. CC is causing temperature to rise (or at least that's what the ecoloonies are telling us. Higher temperatures mean better weather to go for walks in the countryside. More and more people take up walking and see it as a good opportunity to exercise the dog. So off they traipse across farmers' fields, because this is their "right". Field is full of cows, good weather is during calving season. Combine, inexperienced walker with dog, good weather, field full of cows and calving season and you have a recipe for "violent" cows. QED.
HC, that is excellent logic! Especially the dig at the 'right to roam' brigade.
