Siftin' the dregs of popular culture. Purely for research purposes, of course.

Julia M reports that they're going to do a remake of Fame, which reminded me of this video:

Which in turn reminded me of this video, the first half-minute or so of which is more or less identical (from there on it's interspersed with cutaway shots of all sorts of high-tech doolally, but they keep cutting back to the main 'story'):

One problem... they're a re-doing of a scene from Flashdance.

Excellent point, but I was referring to the 'spontaneous crowd dancing' scene at the end of Geri's video - or is that based on Flashdance as well?

'at the end of Geri's video'

Politcal Gotterdammerung*, a momentous European election and the country going to hell in a handcart and you think I've got time to watch ten and a half minutes of Geri and Jennifer?

*Apologies to purists, but I can't do umlauts in html.

And I thought I'd plumbed the depths. :)

Mark,

You're quite right.

JuliaM,

I can't comment on Fame as I've never seen it, but as it's by Alan Parker, improving it would be tricky.

But Saturday Night Fever? With Simon Cowell producing? How much of a crap, cynical cash-in is that going to be?

There's 4 that could be quite good: Dune, Logan's Run, Westworld and Tron. All good stories made into not bad (or bad in Dune's case) films that could be improved upon.

Of all the remakes I've seen, the only two I've liked were Thomas Crown Affair and Ocean's 11.
