Reader's Letter Of The Day

From the FT:

Sir, If it is true that the "Buy American" provisions will increase wealth and safeguard jobs within the US economy (Tug-of-war over Buy American, June 24), then what is the sense in stopping there?

Surely a "Buy Californian", "Buy Minnesotan" and "Buy Oklahoman" series of laws would, by the same logic, maximise wealth and jobs within each state – and adding these sums would create an even more prosperous US in total.

"Buy from Sioux Falls", "Buy Twin City Goods" and "Buy from Petaluma" acts should then follow on the road to world economic leadership through trading mainly within each family.
