On TV, just now, Andrew Marr asked The Goblin King whether he would stand down as PM if the other members of the Cabinet asked him to do so. The Goblin King replied "No." (and then waffled for a bit). Andrew Marr's interrupted his waffle with this: "So you'd take the pearl-handled revolver and shoot them?"
I do hope this makes it into the official transcripts.
UPDATE 1: The official transcript reports Andrew Marr as saying "So you'd take the revolver and shoot them?": it isn't quite as funny without the "pearl-handled" (scroll seven-eights of the way down).
UPDATE 2: Marksany heard him say "pearl-handled" as well.
Andrew Marr gets a bonus point for interrupting to point out that the Tories, UKIP and BNP are "very different, of course" when The Goblin King tried to lump them together, but this was barely audible.

Brown's going to hang on to the election.
While backbenchers are probably keen to get rid of him, none of the big hitters is going to make a move on him this close to an election. They'll still keep their seats and it will be much easier starting after he resigns.
The comparisons with Thatcher don't stand up. The Tories were down, but to a point where a new leader could rescue the party. The latest poll has them at 22%. Also, the Conservative Party could quite easily despatch a leader. Labour has, not unsurprisingly, a more complicated process for leadership challenges.

TA, but a lot of 'big hitters' are in marginal seats, some of them must be calculating that their chances of keeping it is better with The Goblin King gone?
Anon, good find, I'll do that later perhaps.
Mark,
Who are you thinking of in terms of big hitters with small majorities? I had a whizz around Wikipedia, and it looks like Jacqui Smith is in quite a slender seat, but the rest of the cabinet seem quite safe.
I guess Jacqui could make a move in a last-ditch attempt to save her career, but I thought she was pretty much damaged goods at this point.
TA, it was just something I read somewhere, perhaps it isn't true?
I watched that and thought Marr was awful - all he was really interesting in was promoting his own personal agenda, particularly for an elected second chamber.
Can someone explain why it is that when we have a major problem with elected representatives dipping their grubby little paws in the till the solution is more elected representatives and even more snouts in the trough?
"Pearl handled revolver"
Yup it's definitely there .. .. .. just watched the interview on iPlayer.
Loved the part about all MPs facing a Star Chamber (I had to look it up on Wiki) .. .. .. then listening to him banging on about transparency and openness.
