This is a bit O/T, though there is a similar theme. I recently read an article with the (to me) surprising statistic that one in fifty African American males is HIV positive.
The article went on to suggest around seven possible reasons for this, and in just about all of them the word 'racism' was used.
Number one on the list was 'poverty'.
I really have a lot to say on this subject but I need to find some articles and final reports on these findings.....I'm adopted myself and the cause was because my mother was sixteen, Catholic and of course poor!!
I'm interested to find out what the findings thinks is the cause and the figures of other cultures in foster care?
i'll get back to you, unless any one can cite any social services reports before I do.
O, I did think of you when I saw that poster!
That's because white families are usually refused if they want to adopt them.
Why these poor mites are up for adoption is anyone's guess. But we do have a very high level of teenage pregnancy so that is probably a factor.
C, as it happens, I know a mixed race couple who have only one child and would love to adopt a mixed race baby.
They are the nicest, most normal couple you could wish to meet, but social services have been pissing them about for over two years (I'm not sure whether they've lost interest in adopting yet)
