I bet nobody saw this one coming ... (2)

From The Metro:

Fears that new Google software will spy on workers

The internet giant is marketing its Latitude download as a way for friends to keep in touch or for anxious parents to keep tabs on their children. Google has been accused of putting a spy in everyone's pocket by launching software which maps the location of mobile phone users anywhere in the world...

A spokesman for data watchdog, the information commissioner, said: 'Customers opting into the service should be made aware of how their information will be used. We will be monitoring the system closely.'

Oh, I bet they bloody well will! They must be positively salivating at the thought.

Google Earth even shows my Transit Van parked outside Penguin Towers.

"Enemy of the State" is coming to real life near you any moment.

The Penguin.

Correction - a way for anxious parents to keep tabs on their children's phones.

Give the phone to a mate - job done!

JM "Give the phone to a mate - job done!".

Sure, but the anxious parent will just make sure that the 'phone is charged before child leaves house and will ring up every half an hour - it will look a bit suspicious if they don't reply all evening. Then the child will have to work out how to patch the call through to a different 'phone etc.

Which drug dealers probably know how to do ...

More scary is the fact that the EU are allegedly trying to develop their own search engine (no link, just a rumour whilst I was in Brussels). They have their work cut out so may have to give up and bully Google into restricting 'unapproved' sites instead, as China have done.

Google searches without criticism of the EU. How very European.

This is one that is bound to be compulsory for us all sometime or other, as we know, if the Government have the technology they will use it and because they didn't develop it it may even work !
