Thanks to everybody who voted. I ran this poll because I felt a bit embarrassed about asking friends directly how much the The Tooth Fairy gave their children.
£1 per tooth is the consensus* with half the votes; 50 pence came second and £2 came third. I feel a bit sorry for the one child who only receives 10 pence.
* Phew. The Tooth Fairy gave my little boy £1 for his first tooth, so at least he knows he's being fairly treated.

Tooth fairy round here is more generous.
Mind you, the teeth are a little bigger and sharper than most. :o)
Don't forget to get your Pound back plus interest when the kid gets his new tooth ;-)
Cruel to be kind and all that. Its the only way they'll learn.
There is a fierce inflation in this. I think I got three pence ( as a 'bit') back in the 40s or thereabouts
Good grief! I can remember when it was a tanner.
I vaguely remember getting 6d before decimalisation and 5p thereafter. Indexed up with average earnings, that equates to 50p or £1 in today's money. Thruppence in 1945 would be worth £1.22.
A tanner is the correct figure.
Its a £1 here and the 'sourie de dent' gives a euro on the other side of the channel- so thats to Gordo we are almost at parity.
