That's more like it. No quarter.

This situation is just unbelievable. How the hell do pirates manage to board and take control of these boats without anyone noticing?

Apparently it's quite easy, especially if the ship being attacked isn't armed. Of course the crew notice, but by then it's too late.

The BBC report does say the Indians let 2 speedboats get away from the ship, which, unfortunately, is not quite the traditional treatment of pirates. I think the international community needs to be more pro-active on this - for example enforcing no sailing on ANY boats from Somali ports. This would be a bit tough on some fishermen, many of whom will be fishermen only when there isn't a bigger catch.

The real problem is not just Somalia but that, if profitable, such things will happen in many other places. A couple of years ago a British Rear Asmiral said he expected piracy to soon become a problem in the Mediterranean http://a-place-to-stand.blogspot.com/2006/06/globalisation-makes-assimilation-seem.html

The causes & cure of piracy have been demonstrated many times throughout history.

Agreed, the two speedboats should have been sunk as well.

Agreed. As we know from our own streets if you allow crime to take place then you get more crime.

That's the way to do it. Remembering our jibbering wrecks who got taken by the Iranians, to our eternal shame, I can't help thinking that Indian naval personnel would have been a bit better behaved judging by this episode.
