Joshua Rozenburg points out that this is not quite the case - but he fudges the point that if you can twist someone's arm (literally) in to accepting a disadvantageous private agreement, we never get as far as testing whether it will stand up in court.

There's still more to this than meets the blog; as yet we haven't got a Lord Chief Justice saying 'oh yes, that's right, judges are going to enforce the Sharia rulings'. Rozenberg is also dancing round the fact that the Telegraph's other coverage was emphatically that Sharia is enforceable in UK courts.
