" . . the overwhelming majority of professionals I met, including those from the police, the health service, the government and voluntary sectors held the same view: the illegality of drugs causes far more problems for society and the individual than it solves . . "
And not one of these time-serving jobsworths has the guts to stand up and say so.
How about Richard Brunstrom, who is retiring soon.
Q: will he f*** off abroad or stay here and fight?
I know something of Julian Critchley, he's one of the founders of South London Storm the RL team I used to play for, and also an active amateur RL referee in the London area.
He gave up the Civil Service to retrain as a teacher because he was disillusioned with what he was doing. He's a very clever bloke and also one who clearly put his principles before simply being a time serving jobsworth.

Re Richard Brunstrom: he'll stay here and shut up. Even if he doesn't shut up he'll have no platform to speak from. As a retiree he'll be dead meat as far as the MSM are concerned.
BTW of the professionals listed by Critchley, on reflection I'm a bit wary of policemen who speak out concerning what the law should be rather than advising their bosses concerning the mechanics of applying the law and, even better, while they're at it, applying the law without fear or favour. We don't know, of course, what advice ACPO members are giving to the government re drugs policy. On no evidence at all, I suspect it's crap.
