"Minister in British day blunder"

Priceless!

Scroll down to the end ...

The TUC is campaigning for a new bank holiday in late October, to break the run of 16 weeks without a holiday between August and Christmas.

This is one of those rare occasions where the TUC have got it spot on! How about 21st October?

This sort of dimwittery is really annoying when you live in Scotland. "Bank Holiday today" says the Beeb - meaning a Public Holiday. Oh no it isn't, says Scotland. "Schoolchildren start their exams today" - no. "It's back for the new school year today" - no, that was weeks ago. On and on it bloody goes - parochial ignorance and incompetence by an allegedly British outfit. The worst crime, though, is to announce some horrible cock-up by the English courts and then say "What does this mean for British justice?" bugger all, shouts Scotland.

Do they even have an "August Bank Holiday" in Scotland? I thought when I last lived up there for a reasonable time (and yes, my name is "Jock" for a reason!) each town had their holiday weekend on different weekends more or less throughout July and August - the Glasgow Fair, the Paisley Fair, the Renfrew Fair and so on...

I even think that Greenock and Gourock were on different weekends despite being more or less one urban mass.

But they are certainly right in that the schools are back in Scotland before we've even had our August Bank Holiday.

Mark, where's your consideration for diversity and multi-culti? The frog's won't like it if we have a public holiday celebrating yet another of their defeats. It'll be like making them get off the Eurostar at Waterloo all over again!

Will the French let us celebrate a national holiday on 21st October!?!

PS Labour must be in serious trouble if all they can offer the electorate is a bank holiday!

Nah - we already celebrate the 5th November and we could burn Guido of sewer blog fame.

Celebrating an event where a one eyed leader got shot is probably a non starter.
