"UKIP welcomes its first MP"

Top stuff!

I don't know whether Dr Bob Spink MP (Castle Point, Essex) belongs to the small-government free-market liberal wing or the ex-Tory authoritarian wing, but right now, who cares?

In Nu-Lab, it's all one great big authoritarian wing.

Good news indeed. especially like his stand on abortion. Shame he voted for the smoking ban though.

It does matter which wing he is from to me. I have always been put off by UKIP's ability to appeal to the authoritarian elements of our society, be they Tory, NU Lab or others.

If UKIP is ever to be a serious player it needs to throw off the growing, but probably undeserved, reputation for being home to the swivel-eyed authoritarian tendency.

First swivel-eyed loons,
now swivel-eyed authoritarian tendency. CCHQ trolls are out in force today.....

I call that progress!

Anon (2) it isn't GCHQ, just the left elements of the MSM using those pejortive terms

Vindico, don't confuse my observations with personal belief's.

Anon (1), this is not primarily a political blog, so Pete can't be classified as a troll (if I have understood the term correctly). And he did answer the question.

GS, that does worry me a bit as well, but right now I am still too chuffed to care.

the great simpleton,

It depends what you mean by authoritarian.

UKIP seem to be the only party where they would like shoplifters to be more harshly punished than someone who smokes in their company car (if any other driver intermittently uses it).

Tim,

Smoking in the car shouldn't be illegal in the first place.

My definition, or at least one of them, of authoritarian is someone who's response to every problem is the lock them up in jail for longer.
