At the risk of sounding hard-hearted, why is the government spending taxpayer's money on this?

Whatever the true reason, it's unlikely to be one of the good reasons that disinterested folk might suggest.

As usual with these turds - wait for the small print. But this "give-away" compares very unfavourably with the annual £5 billion (now about £7 billion) leeched from pension schemes by the Son of the Manse since 1997. I reckon the Treasury's got a bargain.

BTW, if my low opinion of the electorate and the MSM is justified, this "generosity" with our money will rescue Hain from any repercussions from his self-admitted criminality over campaign contributions.

I can't find it but I seem to remember there was a report that claimed the pensioners were misled by the Govt and that compensation should be paid.
