It's "their business" in exactly the same way that what used to be the "government" in Westminster is vaguely interested in local elections. Local government results are a minor indication of what the little people are thinking (not that the filth in office will take much notice either way) and an opportunity to big up how the locals love their rulers up in London (or Brussels). OTOH, if the little people vote the wrong way (which they did in Poland 2 years ago), it just shows how they misunderstand what the great project is all about and how more "education" is required.
