Scrapping stamp duty completely and making up the difference elsewhere – whether with more progressive council tax bands or a new land tax – is the only way to get the market moving again, regardless of Brexit.

Interesting development: London media used to be very much in favour of booming property prices, when most Londoners were owner-occupiers or other speculators. My guess is that now the London media realize that most of their prospective readers are renters or would-be upgraders.
