Amazon Prime

I have ordered a few things from Amazon over the past month, I checked my bank statement yesterday and saw a payment of £79 for "Amazon Prime, to which I never signed up (it is supposed to guarantee slightly quicker delivery times on all orders or something).

I rang the bank to ask what it was about, and - sort of off the record - the lady told me that this had happened to her as well and she knew of plenty of other instances, apparently Amazon trick you into signing up to this somehow and somewhere in the small print.

She helpfully gave me the number to ring - 0800 496 1081 - in order to cancel, which I did, got through after two minutes and the man apologised and said that they would cancel/refund it.

They haven't done so yet, but we will see…

Happened to me some time ago. At that time there was a Prime trial button placed so that it could easily be clicked accidentally and as I remember it there was no confirmation button afterwards.

AKH, but did you complain and get a refund?

My Amazon account allowed me to opt out of Prime as long as it was within the trial period - which I did.

We use Amazon a lot - for business stuff as well as home - and I watch a film in the kitchen when her indoors is viewing strictly x voice or whatever. I think it's worth it.

If you use Amazon, watch films, listen to music, use a kindle then it's a serious bargain

L, my missus watches strictly and and Dec, is that the same programme?

SM, I use one of those four, so no thanks.

Just used it yesterday, and the Prime trial button is huge and colourful but the "No thanke" link (note: not even a button) is small and nondescript so I imagine it is easy to click the button accidentally, I almost do it every time.

I have assessed Prime a few times but still end up concluding that it doesn't represent particularly good value for money for me at the present time.

I love Prime. Apart from the movies and music (which more than pay for it), the next day delivery thing means we never buy stuff from shops because of shipping.

RT, thanks.

TS, I occasionally buy MP3s from Amazon, plus other bits and pieces. I take the point about faster delivery, but what difference does it make to MP3s, they come instantly anyway, don't they? Or are they cheaper if you have Prime?

Mark,

MP3s make no difference. For us, it's like the kids need say, a USB stick for school. It's a lot cheaper from Amazon and if we need it the next day that's better than going out to get it.

My wife loves it, but for me, the movies and TV alone cover the cost (I liked The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle, Mr Robot and the first series of Outlander).
