October is a difficult time for supermarkets. They have to juggle Halloween, fireworks, Xmas, Diwali and Hannukah.

Very true.
They are all rather similar (except Christmas) as this table points out
Festival | Festival of Light? | Fireworks? | Sweet things? | Savoury things? | Costumes? |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Halloween | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes |
Diwali | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No |
Hannukah | Yes | No | Yes | Yes | No |
Guy Fawkes | No | Yes | No | Yes | No |
But everyone has different sweets and savouries so it is a bit of a pain

You forgot treacle toffee on Bonfire Night!
Yes and toffee apples. Not that anybody likes actually eating them.
and although you don't have fireworks at Xmas, there is a lot of lighting involved. Fairy lights, candles etc, and many Xmas cards show a ire burning in the hearth.
Hanukkah is December...
M. Yes of course - so is xmas.
MW, Xmas starts in October at the very latest!
M, we don't have many Jews down here, but I expect that where they do, the supermarkets are gearing up for Hanukkah in October in the same way as they are for Santa's grim season.
Most cultures have a festival for each season/solstice and equinox. We have biggies in spring and winter, smaller ones in autumn and nothing really in summer.
MW I LOVE eating toffee apples...
