I saw an advert on the back of a bus, advising us to store our apples in the fridge to make them last longer, thus reducing food waste.
I think it was this lot, but maybe it was some other quango.
I am no expert on these matters, but it strikes me that most people go shopping once or twice a week and apples will keep for considerably longer than a week outside a fridge, so as long as you just buy enough apples to last you until your next shopping trip or two, you'll be fine.
So the advert is a load of nonsense.

I bet it's a fake charity. Some gruesome idea from Downing Streets 'nudge unit'.
L, yes of course, they made no secret about that, the advert said it was sponsored by various local councils etc.
What will they think of to waste our money next? If they wanted to do something serious about food waste, they would investigate the arbitrary nonsense that is "consume by" dates.

Ssshh. I enjoy my half price ham from the reduced section that comfortably has at least another week of life in it.

We, collectively 'waste' food. Well so what? It's up to each individual household to look after themselves.
A year or so ago some adverts started popping up saying "Cyclists, beware of parked car doors opening, give plenty of room".
I thought this was unreasonable, and so must of a lot of other people as they disppeared as quickly as they appeared.
So I am left thinking that some bored government employee must have come up with that.
Mark, we live in the New Puritan Era. Waste is a sin and is to be discouraged. Think of all those starving children in Africa.
