At last, a bit of sensible advice from the Beeb.

Franklin considers snow shovelling to be so dangerous that he advises anyone over the age of 55 not to do it.

Let's factor in a margin of safety and reduce that age limit to 25 or something, you never know. Better safe than sorry.

Sorted.

"Sorry I couldn't make it into work, but the car was snowed in and I didn't want to risk a heart attack."

With a bit of luck, that'll get you out of some forced Xmas shopping trips/picking up relatives trips as well.

Y'see, that's me problem. I like snow. I like driving in snow - it's fun, and yes I have a 4WD motor.

Made a rod for my own back haven't I?

Surely snow is on the way out as soon as the climate learns about global warming.

L, well, you're warned, don't over do it.

AKH, global warming causes more snow in the UK. Fact. Unless it's causing less snow. Also fact. Scientific consensus.

Last time I snowshovelled snow, I nearly slipped over outside my £120,000 ground floor apartment in a pleasant semi-rural conurbated village setting, due to a frozen copy of the Daily Mail hidden under the snow, so one really can't be too careful.

Excellent news! I now have a study to point to when my wife kicks me out, snow shovel in hand, into the cruel Canadian winter.

It may not do any good but at least I can get the satisfaction of saying "I told you so" in advance.

Here in warm wet south west Wales, there's no point in shovelling snow. Either it's slush, in which case you can drive through it or it's ice in which case I won't be able to get up the hill at the end of my track, so might as well stay put or walk.

True story: the guy who owned my current house until 5 years ago, died of a heart-attack while shovelling snow in the driweway. Needless to say I am not going to jinx it and I have a contractor come by every time it snows heavily...
