Workers' wages peak at the start of the month, official data shows, unlike the mid-1970s when people had most pay on a Friday.
In 2013, people had the highest average earnings at the start of the month, at £1,393 after tax, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
But it 1975, it was Friday when people had the most, at the equivalent of £709 after tax, regardless of the date on which the Friday fell.
However, the average masks different wage peaks for men and women.
