I'd call that a pretty good result :-)

I stood for YPP in the local elections yesterday.

I stood in a much larger ward for the county council elections last year and got 21 votes, despite doing leaflets (0.5%); this time round I got 37 votes (2%) and that was without doing any campaigning or leafletting whatsoever.

All I did was stick up a yellow poster with the YPP logo in my front window (handily, we live on the high street so quite a few people must have seen it).

so for next time round you should follow your rule of diminishing returns.... by handing out leaflets you got 21 votes, then by only leaving the leaflet in the window 37 votes, so next time do nothing, no hand out, and not in the window and you may get..... 53 votes.

Consider me as your new campaign manager.....just don't call me Max.

AM, I was told by a Labour party activist that the key is to be on the ballot paper, time and time again, which chimes in with what Ukippers have told me.

FWIW I'd have voted for you had you been on my ballot paper. I voted for the European bit and then saw the selection for my ward [Fullwell]. 3 Tories, 3 Labour, a LibDem, a UKIP and one Independent. I might have voted for the Independent but the one thing I knew about him from a leaflet dropped through my door a while back is that he'd claimed to have got the council to agree on a 30 minute stay of execution for people parking in Barkingside High St on a meter, starting on the 1st April just gone. When I spoke to a warden last week he assured me there was no such leeway. Anyhow, I put the ballot paper in the box unmarked.

P156, thanks, but you can sign up to YPP and vote for yourself next time. It's a slow hard unrewarding slog but you've got to start somewhere.

It took Labour 20 years to get anywhere, it's taken UKIP 20 years to get anywhere.

AM, the old ballet/ballet joke, brilliant, but try as I might, I can't actually see the word "ballot" in the post itself.

smug as it may sound.... the ballet joke was the ripsote not to the post but to your reply in the comments section....AM, I was told by a Labour party activist that the key is to be on the ballot paper, time and time again, which chimes in with what Ukippers have told me.....

although I am now minded of EB White's quote about frogs and jokes so forgive my smugness... I am a psychedelic furs fans after all !

AM, no no, I got the joke, very funny, I was just baffled because I didn't use the word "ballot" in the post (altho' I used it in the comments).

And EB White was wrong, explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog - absolutely hilarious if you are a bit of a sadist and enjoy tormenting your audience.

It may be that E B White is wrong...... Ask Stewart Lee ... He is a pure craftsman in the art of Frog autopsies...
