Multi-millionaire businesswoman forced to close upmarket night club as 'farmers don’t go out late'

From The Evening Standard:

A TOP City executive who juggled her career with raising six children has blamed the failure of her night club in Wymondham near Norwich on farmers going to bed early.

Fund manager Nicola Horlick, 53, says she had to close her Georgina's   after 18 months because the area was "full of farmers and farm workes who have to be up at the crack of dawn".

The multi-millionaire, who named the restaurant after her eldest daughter who died of leukaemia in 1998, said she had failed to make a profit because of poor trade in the evenings and at night time.

She said: "I have learnt a lot of lessons. The problem is Norfolk is full of agricultural workers who don't go out much at night."

The economically illiterate former banker also cited "outrageous" business rates in the market town for the night club's failure and blamed local estate agents for pushing them up…

However, she plans to open a lap dancing club in Harleston, another area known for its population of so-called "country folk".

The new venture will also be called Georgina's and could be followed by a casino in the Peak District or an all-night cocktail bar on Bodmin Moor, she said.

I'll definitely be going for her investment fund. Sounds like a sure winner.

There's an article from April 2012

http://www.bighospitality.co.uk/People/Nicola-Horlick-s-Georgina-s-restaurant-a-good-business-proposition-as-well-as-a-tribute-to-late-daughter

that includes the following comment:-

"The fund manager's perspective on the overall restaurant market is fair enough but the river end of Barnes High St is a ghost town most evenings (I live there). You can literally walk into the street at 9pm and not see a soul in either direction."

You're going to stick a ton of money into a restaurant and you don't even check what the area is like on a Saturday night?

TS. Hah! She made an investment without doing the research. That pretty well sums up her whole investment career IMHO - and I am supposed to know about these things when choosing fund managers for clients (actually I don't - separate topic), and she's been NBG all along AFAIAC. Ace self publicist though.

L, you can tell by looking at her.

MIM, yes, let's send her our cheques right now!

TS, excellent find.

L, ace self-publicist - she even gets a sympathetic write-up and some free copy for a business which is failing.

In other news: Horlicks to open steakhouse chain in India, gastro-oubs in Iran, open air swimming pools in Antarctic, sun tan parlours on Jamaica etc.
