‘The Daily Mail has campaigned hard to make internet search engine filters “default on”. Today they can declare that campaign a success,’ Mr Cameron said.
"The Daily Mail, which has been running a campaign to crack down on child pornography, reported that the prime minister will say: 'By the end of this year, when someone sets up a new broadband account the settings to install family-friendly filters will be automatically selected. If you just click 'next' or 'enter', then the filters are automatically on. And, in a really big step forward, all the ISPs have rewired their technology so that once your filters are installed, they will cover any device connected to your home internet account. No more hassle of downloading filters for every device, just one-click protection. One click to protect your whole home and keep your children safe'.

I wonder what the next step will be - protecting us from climate sceptic and anti-EU sites, with no opt-out?
How difficult is it going to be to turn the filters off again?
Good thing I manage the household utilities...
I suppose it serves those internet porn companies right for not employing Lynton Crosby.
When you pause to consider that in many households the kids know a damn sight more than the parents about computers and the internet, probably fairly easy. Just look over dad's shoulder for the password.........
Then again, a savvy kid might just download a free VPN service and the ISP wouldn't have a scooby about what sites were being visited.
Would it be unreasonably cynical of me to wonder if at some stage in the future, and entirely in the interests of looking after the cheeeeeldren (naturally) that lists of those potential Thought Criminals Who Turned Off The Filters might be provided to the authorities?
I mean, someone's got to keep society safe. If you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to worry about. Innit?
What are really needed are filters which turn off property porn on the television. Shows which start off "Are you unemployed or on short hours? You must be because this show goes out in the day, so get yourself down to the nearest property auction and bid thousands on a beat-up house. Overnight your social standing will soar to that of property speculator. No more being poor but honest! So post-war!"
I can think of six ways to subvert the filter off the top of my head. I'm sure my son would know of many others.
DBC, nice one, I have duly posted.
@ formertory - There are already sinister moves afoot to make use of VPN's more difficult. Many of the online payment processors, such as Paypal, are now refusing to handle payments to VPN's. This is due to being leant on by the all powerful copyright industry, who believe that anyone using a VPN is up to no good, and must be downloading music/films etc.
Slowly the net tightens...
I must admit I am a tad disappointed that so little is being made of that "technological breakthrough" whereby ISP's will be able to ensure that "restrictions placed on an account will apply to all devices using it". That must have kept the boffins busy for simply months ...
@Bob: " That must have kept the boffins busy for simply months..."
I'm sure you're aware of this, but you misspelled minutes.
I'm more disappointed that the Mail seem to be under the impression that this filter won't censor their website.
So anyone who uses Windows but knows nothing at all about computers (or Windows) might get some useless and ineffective filters applied, which will annoy the hell out of them by throwing up loads of false-positives.
And the rest of us won't be affected at all.
What a load of warm horse manure.
