The results to last week's Fun Online Poll were as follows:
Did you get an invitation to...
Carry the Olympic Torch - 11%
Appear at the Leveson Inquiry - 1%
Both - 6%
Neither - 82%
Crikey, one-in-six people took part in at least one of the two activities. I'm now unsure whether to a)feel more left out than ever; b) to sympathise with my fellow refuseniks; or c) to suspect that the answers weren't entirely correct.

Having racked my brains to think of something even vaguely interesting to say about that major sporting/corporate sponsorship event taking place this month in London and failed, I shall throw it open to the crowd.

It costs £2.5/11/24 billion according to whether you find the the government, the government or the Mail more believeable. I find that interesting.
Put that money into space X-Prizes and Britain would have a fleet of shuttles, orbital industries, and a permanent Moon base. I find it interesting that our masters promise the Olympics will do more to enhance both our economy and national prestige.
NC, the cash costs are a known figure, I think £15 - 20 billion, something like that, but that's not the real cost, the real cost is the deadweight cost of complying with the regulations, which miraculously all channel large amounts of money to big companies with good lobbyists. These costs are something like 5 to 10 per cent of GDP.
