I'm no weather forecaster, but I could have told them that.

From the BBC:

The drought that has affected parts of England since June will last into next summer if there is insufficient winter rain, the Environment Agency has said.

In other news: "The drought that has affected parts of England since June will end if there is sufficient winter rain, the Environment Agency has said."

That's what we get in return for those index-linked pensions - good practical advice.

True enough AKH, but have they gone far enough ? It is all very well advising people to save water by having their neighbours around for communal shower parties and telling everyone - much no doubt to the ire of the estimable Mr Shenker and probably also the equally estimable Prof Gilmour [but they should just accept these are exceptional circumstances]- that rather than drinking water [which is after all just deadly dihydrogen monoxide] - they should instead drink beer or lager, and so on, but when oh when are we going to see some properly organised Rainmaker ceremonies ... until that happens I will assume that the EA, the water companies and the Minister for Water [I assume the Grand alliance tacked that onto the brief of some Minister in Defra, and someone of the standing and capability of Phil Woolas, who did the job for the previous shower I recall] are just not taking things seriously ...

Thankfully, some wonderful busy people are even now looking into our frivolous and profligate washing habits, according to this article in the Indy.

"...even the Government is beginning to pay attention to how long we spend in the shower." With a view to putting a stop to all our wilful and wasteful naughtiness, no doubt!
