Xmas chair

Like all dutiful parents with school age kids, Her Indoors and I spent this afternoon knocking out Xmas tat for the kids' schools' 'Xmas Fayres'. I was tasked with decorating a wicker chair. Having established that trying to spray it white or sparkly-silver was a mug's game, I stapled three strips of tinsel round the top, it still looked a bit tacky, so The Lass and I went into the woods to snip off some twigs of holly with the bright red berries, which I then tied round the outside.

Result? If anybody else has done a post about Xmas-related tat they've had to make for their kids' school, please leave a link, and we can all have a good laugh at each other's efforts.

it still looked a bit tacky,

and you're under the impression that the further additions somehow made it 'less tacky'?

Get some therapy.

Disclaimer: I don't have to make Xmas tat. As an uncle I just have to buy it or receive it as a gift and looked pleased.

PC, where did I say that adding some holly twigs would make it look 'less tacky'?

Sorry, it just 'read' that way to me, by implication.

BTW. is this actually 'For Sale' or is it for Santa to sit on?

PC, I think it's for Santa to sit on. I was tempted to tie the holly twigs to the arm rests as well :-)

I thought it was Xmas 'cheer'?

Perhaps you shud have tied the Holly to the seat?

Seriously though MW, bloody good effort! Not a bad 'Alan' chair for an amateur.

I'm not laughing - that's a good Santa Throne, far better than my efforts.

My mother is a great Christmas fan and was always indulgent in the matter of paper chains, glue and glitter. She always made my poor father put up fairy lights and was very particular about it. She made a low-light grotto.

The best part was she did it in a single Friday night after we had gone to bed so that the next morning we woke up, everything was magical and it stayed that way until Epiphany.

I still remember the feel of sharp sandy glitter on little cold toes and the kiss of the Snow Queen's breath on the glass.

May I suggest you enquire at The Lakelander's Tat Emporium whether they might have something suitable in stock?

L, it was supposed to be a genius Sun-style play on words.

WFW, I was tempted.

WOAR, my kids enjoy the decorating bit, so I install the tree and let them do it.

AR, lovely, but not really parent-made Xmas tat, is it?

MW Ahh. I thought it was.

May I tell my favorite Xmas story? I found my daughter and friend playing with a crib and doll. "Hello, kids, what are you up to?" "We are Joseph amd Mary and Baby Laura." "Isn't it usually Baby Jesus?" "We didn't want a boy."
