A Conservative government would continue multi-million-pound state funding of trade unions in spite of the party’s hardline rhetoric against the strikes, David Cameron’s union envoy has said. Richard Balfe, appointed by the Tory leader to improve the party’s relations with the unions, said Cameron would not be seeking to pick a fight.
Just sayin', is all.

I saw that as well. Frankly I am amazed. It might be that he's doing a Thatcher and getting himself positioned before he takes them on. If the wave of strikes they have promised to visit on the Tories gets going (if they get into power of course) the public mood would most probably swing behind cancelling the susidy. It is after all just another corporatist subsidy of comemrcial organisations masquerading as trade unions.
My decision not to vote Conservative is further underpinned by this lunacy together with the Conservative Tobin tax policy (to be introduced, apparently, whether or not it is introduced globally). Do the Conservatives really think that they will gain one trade unionist vote from this? I suppose they must, since there's no other reason for the policy.
It'll hurt to see Brown given an extension on his lease on no 10 but seeing Cameron go down to defeat will provide some light in the gathering gloom.
