I've met him. A few times actually... and quite an interesting chap in his day. Not so sure about his judgment now though. But I wish him well, he's had a tough time over the years.

Despite what they said in The Guardian yesterday and what it says on Wikipedia ,Gosling reckons to have been born in Northampton. His autobiography plus general social commentary "Sum Total" was written when he was 21,and joins others in the same genre by Jeremy Seabrook ( Northampton present= soulless, prosperous) and Andrew"Polyanna" Collins (Northampton= absolutely marvellous). Then there are the reminiscences of Alan Moore,so richly odd you cannot compare him with the other three.Strange (or to be expected?),that a town so dead should produce such lively writing.
