Please sir, may we have some more?

From the BBC:

Charities to get recession funds

More than £40m is being put towards helping charities to assist people through the recession, the government is due to announce. The plan, for England and Wales, will include awarding grants to deprived areas, a volunteering scheme, and funds to help non-profit organisations merge.

One charity group said the money was "a start" but more would be needed. Last week the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) asked the prime minister for at least £100m.

I tell you, if Devil's Kitchen ever gets FakeCharities.org up and running, it will be quicker to do a list of charities that aren't primarily taxpayer-funded and don't just solemnly peddle government propaganda. And what are the chances, that if and when we come out of the recession/depression, that these charities then waive this lovely extra money?

I'm so far behind the times. I thought charities were supposed to campaign for charitable donations and then do good works. I didn't realise that it's actually that they hussle for tax handouts in order to campaign for government.

You couldn't make it up. the organisation for voluntary giving wants more charitable giving at the end of a policeman's gun.

'Tis pleasant to have some relief, thanks Mark. In comparison to the trillions that are lately rumoured to be paid by the Americans for that "bad-bank-stuff" , it's so nice to return to the warm, homely hearth of humble, plain millions.
