What is it with these people? When looking for a needle in a haystack, their stock answer is to build a bigger haystack.

Sorry, old news. Has been around since ex Home Secretary Jug Ears rammed it through the Council of Ministers. Will costs telecom providers a fortune (lucky me!).

When the directive was passed originally I phoned up the DTI in the hope of getting to talk to somebody who understood it and could help me understand the impact on my business. All I got was very confused people who told me to go to the Homeoffice, where I was told to go to the DTI, etc, etc.

Why are you worried? We have it on the Home Office spokesman's authority that "These powers will continue to be subject to strict safeguards to ensure the right balance between privacy and protecting the public." Surely this should provide us with all the reassurance we need although use of the word "continue" confirms vindico's comment that the powers are already in being (and probably being used).

OTOH don't forget, "if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear" (used by kind permission of the Labour Party - Brighton Regency Ward)

I'm not 'worried' so much as 'struck f***ing speechless' by the whole thing. Hence the brevity of the post.
