Arnold Schwarzenegger on drugs

Another fine Arnie quote in The Metro:

'What would you rather have? A politician taking stuff and not saying, but making the best decisions and improving things? Or a politician who names all the drugs he or she has taken but makes lousy decisions?'

He seems to be becoming more libertarian by the day!

But then he spoils it all by naming Tony Blair as one of the greatest leaders in history, who definitely falls into the second category. Ah well.

You can see just how libertarian Arnie is (was?) by going here:

And clicking on episode 1 of the 1990s series. He's right at the start, and there's now a word I can say against him for that, nor for his apparent opposition to prohibition of narcotics.

What I can't forgive him for is the bill he has just passed requiring all handguns in California to be manufactured so that they 'microstamp' the ammunition they fire, which is the stupidest piece of gun control ever. Criminals need only spend three seconds with a file to remove it. Not that criminals use legaly bought guns anyway.

When you consider the costs of re-tooling all the gun factories, this may well turn out to be a de facto handgun ban.

Sure, but he's in politics now, so he has an occasional lapse like allowing that gangster to be executed or microstamping.

But on stuff like stem-cell research, gay rights, fighting trade unions, evading the smoking ban (see 'cigar tent') and so on, he's pretty spot on.

... which brings me back to the scene in 'Last Action Hero' where somebody mentions an amendment to the Constitution that allows people born outside the US to become President ...

Hehe, I remember in the GOP live debate they had Arnie in the front row (I think he was funding it or something) and the host asked the candidates each in turn: "would you consider changing the constitution to allow this man and others like him to become president?" and one candidate replied "well that would depend on who he backs for the nomination :P"
