"Phone-hacking defendant: 'It was a terrible misunderstanding on my part'"

From the BBC:

News International's head of security has told the phone-hacking trial that items he removed for safekeeping contained pornography belonging to another defendant, Charlie Brooks.

Mark Hanna told the jury at the Old Bailey in London that it seemed "obvious" to him that Mr Brooks did not mind if the police or his wife found out about it, and he even assumed that his wife, Rebekah, shared her husband's interest in the material.

Giving evidence for a second day, Mr Hanna said Mr Brooks had asked him to look after a brown leather bag left in his car and later handed him a padded bag and a laptop for safekeeping too.

"He explained it was his own personal property and that it was pornography," said Mr Hanna.

"I was under the mistaken impression that like most married blokes, he would have introduced his wife to porn at the very start of their marriage and that like most married women she'd also enjoy having a quick flick through when he was out of the house.

"Like most men in a relationship, he had never deleted his browser history or anything. It was a great surprise when he later told me that he had never informed his wife and did not want it to get into the hands of the police."

"British man, 28, made MBE after hacking into computer systems of US army, Nasa and other federal agencies"

From The Daily Mail:

A British man has been made a Member of the British Empire after showing true British grit and determination and hacking into the computer systems of the US army, Nasa and other federal agencies.

The 28-year-old, named as Lauri Love from Suffolk, was presented with the award by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) under the Computer Misuse Act (CMA). He has been invited to join a specialist team with Gary McKinnon at GCHQ from next February.

Showing the bulldog spirit of Bletchley Park during World War II, Love and his partners stole information about government employees, including military service members, by hacking into government networks and leaving behind 'back doors'.

NCA spokesman Andy Archibald said:

"These American fuckers think they can eavesdrop on all their so-called allies with impunity.

"This award is the culmination of close joint working by the NCA, Police Scotland and our international partners in identifying and honouring UK citizens who are going to give those fuckers a taste of their own medicine.

"Cyber-criminals like the NSA should be aware that no matter where in the world you commit cyber crime, even from remote places, you can and will be identified and held accountable for your actions.

"Unless you are a Yank, in which case we will politely turn a blind eye but get our petty revenge by refusing to meekly hand over UK-based hackers and giving them a gong instead."

Making the punishment fit the crime

From The Metro:

A teenage recluse accused of helping to launch a cyber attack on the website of Britain’s security services has been bailed – on condition he stays in his house...

Ryan Cleary, who has reportedly not left the family home for the past four years owing to his agoraphobia, was ordered to observe a curfew between 9pm and 7am.
The 19-year-old will also have to wear an electronic security tag and can only leave the house if he is accompanied by a parent.

"UK hacker's case before Law Lords"

It's been six years since the alleged offences, plenty of time for the Yanks to sort out their data security and reassure themselves that Gary McKinnon didn't do anything malicious!

So why didn't the 'Law Lords' just tell the Yanks to f*** off?

Bastards, the lot of them.
