Meanwhile, our income tax system needs 18,000 staff to do customer service.<br /><br />If you had 18,000 inspectors, you could reassess the whole country every year. No trouble. Customer service would be a doddle. You'd have people calling who disagreed with their assessment, non-payment, and not much else. You'd need some people to handle all the appeals, but as HMRC have 46,000 other staff, I think they could handle it.<br /><br />Seriously, 64,000 f**king staff to do tax and VAT in the age of computers and the internet.
