It's almost as if they want people to join protest groups like the EDL...

From the BBC:

A student who admitted posting racially offensive comments on Twitter about footballer Fabrice Muamba has been jailed for 56 days.

Swansea University student Liam Stacey, 21, from Pontypridd, admitted inciting racial hatred over remarks about the Bolton Wanderers player, who collapsed during a FA Cup tie at Tottenham. A district judge in Swansea called the comments "vile and abhorrent"...

Yes, I'm sure that his Tweets were very hurtful, like millions of other Tweets posted every day which are intended to hurt someone else's feelings, and I can tell you right now that I wouldn't have agreed with them, but the words "totally", "disproportionate" and "response" spring to mind.

Obvious implication is that having Black skin is officially insulting.

Typical victimhood bullshit again. Seems you can't do anything in the UK without some wanker feeling agrieved/insulted.

As usual, your post is bang on the money.

You don't get locked up for stirring up hatred against "rich Jews", though...

What is so annoying is that a thug can clout another person and get a community service and a tag. A thief will get something similar for a mugging. But this drunken foul mouhthed idiot gets 56 days in chokee. There is something very wrong with justice in the UK.

SB, is it?

MTL, seeing as the intended insultee was in a coma at the time, I don't think he was in a position to feel insulted or otherwise.

C, example?

CD, ah yes, the devout Muslims who couldn't handle their drink. Allegedly.

DrE, that's the secret weapon of authoritarian regimes; the punishment is inversely proportional to the actual crime.

The problem would be solved if we elected our judges a few times before making them lifers.

The last judge to be sacked was 1984 I believe, thus all since them have been top notch.

JB, exactly. I find your use of the c-word offensive, for example. It's hardly a crime though, is it?

S, agreed.

Curmudgeon was referring to our potential next Mayor (should London lose its collective mind), the Newt Fancier General... ;)

JM, aha, that now makes sense. Ken's Islamo-sympathetic mutterings do perturb me. Yes, politicians lie to all sorts of special interest groups to 'curry' favour, but with the Islamists I think he goes too far.

If I called someone a
wanky shitbag
that would be ok
If I called someone a
black shitbag
that would be jailable. The obvious implication is that calling someone black is especially insulting.

I was astounded when I read this. A person expresses an opinion and goes to jail? Yikes - where's the outcry? And did you see the Wail poll on it?
